The idea of moving to a new city without a job or any contacts can be scary and intimidating, but these feelings shouldn’t prevent you from moving forward with your plans. There are a lot of things that you can do prior to such a move that’ll make that transition much easier and less stressful.
This is what I discuss with editor Iain Erskine, ACE (TRUE STORY, PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS, NARCOS: MEXICO, MANHUNT: UNABOMBER) on this episode and he shares his experience of moving from London to Los Angeles, and having to reboot his career in the United States.
Iain also talks about the benefits of hiring an agent and how you can go about finding the right one.
Other topics Iain and I discuss include how you can start making contacts before you move out to Los Angeles, how it all comes down to one person giving you an opportunity, the importance of following up with people, the challenges of networking in LA, how adversity builds character, strategies for finding an agent, why the 10% agent fee is worth it, and why you still need to network even if you have an agent.

Very interesting thank you!
I moved to the States from Rome, italy and I had an agent then that wasn’t happy to be with, mostly because they acted more like a payroll company. I never knew how much the client was paying.
Now I’ve been in the States for many years, I found most of the clients with networking.
Now at this point of my career I won’t mind having an agent.
